Laser Skin Resurfacing FAQs
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
Patients can expect to see significant improvements with a single laser skin resurfacing session. However, you may benefit from additional treatments depending on the cosmetic outcome you desire. For concerns such as significant pigmentation, sun damage and deeper wrinkles or scarring, a full treatment plan is more effective. Additionally, a yearly touch up treatment will help preserve your beautiful results!
Will the Treatment Be Painful?
Due to the unique design in the way energy is delivered by the UltraClear laser, treatment with this device is one of the most comfortable laser treatments available. Patients tend to rank their pain level 1-3 out of 10 with the UltraClear, where treatments with other systems consistently can be a 6 out of 10 or higher. Additionally, Dr. Cutler Peck utilizes topical numbing with additional treatments to help minimize any pain sensation.
When Will I See the Results of My Treatment?
You will see results immediately after you heal from your laser treatment. This will be within 3 to 5 days after your treatment. With deeper treatments, your appearance will continue to improve over the following six months as your body produces additional collagen. Individual results are variable and depend upon several factors, including: your overall physical health, the health of your skin, your pre-treatment preparation, the treatment performed and aftercare. Dr. Cutler Peck will assist you in identifying a skin care routine that will maximize your skin health prior to treatment. This will allow your skin to respond as well as possible and help preserve your results after treatment.
What Is the Recovery Like?
Lunchtime Peel: Lighter treatments have little to no downtime. Mild redness, swelling and flaking are normal, but you can wear makeup after a few hours. Most patients can return to work the following day.
The Works: More intensive treatments will require increased post treatment care. In general, patients will heal and be ready for makeup and normal activities 4-5 days after their treatment.
Treatment of Scars: When an isolated scar is treated, normal activities are not disrupted, and focal treatment of the scar will take from 3-5 days until the area is healed.
How Can I Help My Results Last as Long as Possible?
- Protect your skin from the sun!!! Protect your skin from the sun!!! Protect your skin from the sun!!!!!!!!! Once you have invested in improving your skin and are enjoying the beautiful results, it is important to remember that your skin is fresh and new, like baby skin. Protect it as you would protect a baby. This doesn’t mean you can’t be outside, but to prolong your results, protect your skin from the #1 cause of facial aging, UV radiation. Use a mineral sunscreen (zinc oxide and titanium dioxide) with SPF 30 or higher, reapply every 80 minutes and wear a hat!
- Use a Medical Grade skin care regimen. An excellent skin care regiment is the foundation for beautiful skin. Dr. Peck loves and uses Epionce skin care products. These products are made with botanical ingredients and have undergone rigorous testing to ensure their formulations are effective. After development they were compared head-to-head in clinical trials and shown to provide benefits above and beyond the prescription “gold standards”. And they very reasonably priced!! You can purchase Epionce skin care products directly from Dr. Peck’s website and obtain free shipping.
- Maintain your overall health and nutrition. Yes, what you take into your body does affect the health of your skin. A healthy diet including generous portions of leafy greens, berries, citrus fruits, legumes and fish all contribute to collagen production. Additionally, it is important to avoid sugar, smoking and excessive alcohol intake as these all damage the collagen in your skin.
